Shringaverpur is an important site. According to folklore, this is where Lord Rama crossed the Ganges River on his way to exile with Mother Sita and Lakshmana. The Ramayana describes this place as the capital of the kingdom of Nishadraj. Excavations at Shringaverpur have uncovered a temple dedicated to sage Shringi. It is believed that the city derives its name from the sage. The Ramayana mentions that Lord Rama spent a night in Shringaverpur with his brother Lakshmana and wife Sita after a boatman refused to ferry them across the river, prompting Nishadraj himself to arrive to resolve the issue. It is said that Nishadraj stipulated that he would only allow Lord Rama to cross the river if he allowed him to wash his feet. It is believed that Lord Rama granted him permission, and he washed Lord Rama's feet with water from the Ganges River and drank it to show his devotion to Lord Rama. The spot where Nishadraj washed Lord Rama's feet is marked by a platform.
